LIVERPOOL VS ARSENAL: MATCH PREVIEW AND PREDICTION

It is matchday 20 in Premier League and we are waiting for the mighty clash between Liverpool and Arsenal before winding up 2018. Liverpool are the favourites to win the prize with 51 points and Arsenal are at 5th position with 38 points. Can Arsenal ruin the new year party of The Reds? Only time can tell.

ANFIELD STADIUM

 TEAM NEWS

Majority of Liverpool players are ready for the battle including the devastating front trio of Mane-Firmino-Salah. James Milner, Vice Captain of the Reds is unavailable for the match due to a hamstring problem. Dominic Solanke, Gomez and Matip are also not available because of long-term injuries.

Defence is the key factor that worries Emery the most. The absence of Holding, Mustafi, Bellerin, Mavropanos and Nacho Monreal would force Emery to play the 33-year-old Koscielny with Sokratis. Danny Welbeck and Mkhitaryan are also out of the field due to long-term injuries. The case of youngster Emile Smith Rowe is also in doubt as he suffered from a groin injury.

NB: According to the latest news report from Mirror, it is confirmed that Mesut Ã–zil has not travelled with the Gunners to face Liverpool. It is a huge blow for Emery because it is tough to replace the quality of the German.

It is clear that Liverpool has an upper hand with respect to the availability of players. Injury crisis affected the Gunners more than the Reds.

 PREDICTED LINEUP

                  LIVERPOOL

Klopp is likely to go for the 4-3-3 formation against Arsenal. Allison stays in goal without any doubt. Lovren and van Dijk can hold the defence while the wing backs Robertson and Arnold can cause menace in the opposition box.

The absence of Milner could force Klopp to play Keita and Wijnaldum together with the defensive support of Fabinho. The presence of Fabinho is a big relief to other players as he brings calmness and steadiness to the play.

The deadly trio Mane-Firmino-Salah will once again fire up against the Gunners. The pace of these three can cause a lot of hazards for the ageing Arsenal defence.

                 ARSENAL

Leno stays in goal for the Gunners. The old horses Koscielny and Monreal could partner up with Sokratis and Niles in defence. The left wing is a weak link for the Gunners and let's see if Reds will tear it apart or not.

Xhaka can help the defence and can also provide high balls to the opposition box. He is good at corners and freekicks. Guendouzi and Torreira can control the entire game. They fly through all over the field and extremely hard working.

The absence of Mesut and Mkhitaryan could force Emery to play Auba at right wing and Iwobi at left wing.  The creativity of Mesut can never be replaced and it would be a major drawback to the Gunners before the game. The combination of Laca and Auba is worth to watch.
